The problem of billing millions on WooCommerce
Woo is great to get started. But once you cross the million mark, technology stops being a lever and becomes a brake.
You burn €10,000 on Meta and Google to push traffic to the peak… and the server crashes right when it starts converting. ROAS collapses, the customer leaves and the money is gone.
You update WordPress and Woo breaks. You touch the shipping plugin and the payment gateway dies. You live in fear of the ‘Update’ button.
Dedicated hosting, devs putting out fires, security patches… money that should go to marketing, not infrastructure.
ERP, CRM and store don’t talk to each other. Inventory fails, returns are manual, B2B needs a separate site.
Every landing, pixel or test depends on an available developer. Campaign timings don’t forgive.
Your mobile LCP exceeds 4s. Meta penalizes ROAS, Google penalizes SEO and the customer goes to the competition.
WooCommerce vs Shopify
The data that truly moves the needle once you’re billing millions.
| Critical point | WooCommerce | Shopify |
|---|---|---|
| Uptime at traffic peaks | Depends on your hosting | 99.99% guaranteed |
| Mobile speed | Plugins + manual cache | Global CDN + auto cache |
| Checkout | Average conversion | +17% vs Woo (Shopify studies) |
| Security / PCI | Your responsibility | Included and managed |
| Updates | Manual and risky | Automatic, no downtime |
| International (multi-currency/language) | Fragile plugins | Native Shopify Markets |
| Developer dependency | High and constant | Minimal — autonomous marketing |
| Real total cost (1M+) | Hosting + devs + premium plugins | All-in-one platform |
9 reasons Shopify wins at scale
Fewer technical problems
Hosting, security, WP updates, plugin compatibility, backups, optimization… Shopify includes it all. Fewer crashes, less dev dependency.
Real performance and speed
Global CDN, optimized infrastructure and automatic cache. Faster site, better mobile, lower abandonment and better conversion without touching code.
Checkout optimized at scale
Shop Pay, accelerated checkout and native integrations. Global studies show up to +17% checkout conversion vs Woo.
Automatic scalability
Black Friday, TikTok viral, Meta Ads campaign… Shopify absorbs the peaks without touching infrastructure. Zero server tweaks.
Managed security and PCI
SSL, PCI compliance, anti-attack protection and automatic updates. Goodbye to hacks from outdated plugins.
100% eCommerce ecosystem
Email, retention, upsell, CRO, automations, marketplaces, social commerce. Stable apps built to sell.
Internationalization with Shopify Markets
Multi-currency, multi-language, domains and per-country pricing natively. What takes months in Woo activates in days here.
Sell inside AI
Shopify is the first platform with products buyable from ChatGPT, Gemini and Copilot. A new channel that’s already open.
Reliable reporting
Consistent data without plugins that break tracking. Clean native analytics for real decisions.
What happens in €1M–€5M companies after migrating
It’s not magic nor a “+15% tomorrow” promise. It’s the consistent pattern we see in brands that make the jump well accompanied: less friction, more focus on growth.
“There’s a before and after in the ecommerce after the migration. +71% in organic sessions and 18% returning customers.”
— Zahati · Fashion & Accessories (+100 years)- Fewer incidents, less technical dependency and fewer maintenance hours.
- Better checkout conversion, especially on mobile (8–15% typical).
- Autonomous marketing: campaigns and landings ship without waiting for devs.
- Lower real operating cost: up to ~€15,000/year in €1M stores.
- Total stability in big campaigns (Meta, Google Shopping, TikTok).
- Clean reporting, reliable data, fast decisions.
- Internationalization without rewriting half the site (Shopify Markets).
- Up to 90% fewer technical tickets according to post-migration agencies.
What Shopify does NOT fix
We tell you before charging you: migrating to Shopify won’t save a business that doesn’t sell. If Woo doesn’t convert for these reasons, Shopify won’t either:
That’s why in every migration we first audit product, conversion and stack to ensure Shopify will move the needle in your case.
When to migrate (and when not)
The right question isn’t "Is Shopify better?". It’s "Are WooCommerce’s operating cost and friction already braking my growth?".
Migrate now if…
- You bill €1M+ and every Black Friday you pray the server holds
- You have 20+ plugins and updating one breaks two others
- Your mobile LCP exceeds 3s and Meta penalizes your ROAS
- Woo checkout abandons more than 70% on mobile
- Every landing, pixel or A/B test depends on an available dev
- You want to open markets (multi-currency/language) without rewriting half the site
- Your real hosting + devs + plugins cost already exceeds Shopify Plus
Wait if…
- Your Woo runs smooth, scales without scares and your tech team controls it 100%
- Your SEO depends on a heavily-linked 2,000+ post WordPress blog
- You have ultra-custom B2B logic with no direct equivalent in Shopify Plus
- You’re in peak campaign (Q4) and can’t afford 2-4 weeks of transition
- You don’t yet bill enough to amortize Shopify Plus (≤€300k/year typically)
4 phases, zero surprises

Parallel build
We build the new Shopify store in a mirror environment: theme, data, ERP/CRM integrations and gateways. Your Woo keeps selling.
SEO & 301 redirects
We map URL by URL, migrate meta, schema and content. Zero loss of organic ranking.
Go-live with no downtime
Controlled deployment, 24/7 monitoring the first weeks and support for tracking, pixels and campaigns.
What everyone asks
I’ve been on WooCommerce 6 years billing €2M. Is it really worth breaking something that 'works'?
If you’re asking, you’re usually already paying an invisible toll: dev hours a month, premium plugins, dedicated hosting, fear of updating, peaks that crash the store. In €1M–€5M stores the real annual cost of maintaining Woo is usually €12,000–€25,000 — more than Shopify Plus. The question isn’t whether it works, it’s how much it’s holding you back.
How long does the migration take and how long will my store be down?
Between 4 and 10 weeks depending on complexity (catalog, ERP/CRM, B2B, multi-language). Go-live has 0 minutes of downtime: we work in parallel on a mirror environment while your Woo keeps selling, and the DNS switch is done cold with 24/7 monitoring.
Will I lose SEO ranking? That’s what scares me most.
No, if done right — and it’s the point where 80% of migrations fail. We map URL by URL, generate 301 redirects one by one, migrate metadata, schema, hreflang and content. A slight organic volatility of 2–6 weeks is normal and from month 2-3 KPIs recover and usually surpass Woo’s (Zahati: +71% organic sessions post-migration).
How much does a serious WooCommerce to Shopify migration cost?
For €1M–€5M stores, between €3,000 and €15,000+ depending on ERP, B2B integrations, theme customization and catalog volume. We send a closed quote after the free audit — no surprises or open items.
I sell B2B and B2C on the same site. Does Shopify support it or do I have to split the business?
Shopify Plus manages B2B and B2C in the same panel: separate catalogs, per-customer pricing, payment terms, volume discounts and account orders. It’s one of the strongest reasons to migrate — in Woo you used to need two sites and two teams.
I have very custom logic in Woo (configurators, weird discounts, ERP integrations). Can it all be migrated?
90% yes. We evaluate it in the initial audit: most functions have an equivalent in Shopify ecosystem apps or are covered with custom development (private apps, Hydrogen, Shopify Functions). If something doesn’t fit, we tell you before charging you a euro — we’d rather lose a project than sell you smoke.
What happens to my customers, their accounts, order history and subscriptions?
We migrate customers, addresses, order history, tags and segmentations. Passwords aren’t portable (for security), so customers get a transparent email to reset them on first login. Active subscriptions (Stripe, etc.) are mapped to the equivalent Shopify app without losing recurring charges.
What happens the first days after go-live? Will anything feel off?
The first 2–4 weeks tracking, Meta/Google pixels and ROAS usually fluctuate while attribution stabilizes. We monitor it live with you and adjust. By month 2–6 the KPIs (conversion, AOV, ROAS) consistently surpass Woo’s.
